Dear WSG Members,
As we commence a new year, I am pleased to be writing to you about the exciting developments with World Services Group. In my last letter, I talked about our plans to enhance the organization’s brand and profile. To this effect, I am pleased to advise you that WSG has recently signed a three-year agreement to put events together and supply content to Bloomberg BNA, the legal arm of their group. As part of this agreement, we plan to hold our first event of this nature at the Bloomberg offices in New York this year. One key long-term benefit of the relationship with Bloomberg is that I expect it will prompt WSG to collaborate more with our members to generate leading content, which will bring more prestige to the organization and its members. For those interested, the Bloomberg BNA Law website can be found at https://www.bna.com/bloomberglaw.
As a reminder, our WSG regional and annual meetings have been opened for registration and are as follows: Meeting of the Americas (Dallas) on 02-03 March, Asia-Pacific (Auckland) on 05-06 April, and European Meeting (Edinburgh) on 04-05 May. These meetings are great opportunities to meet your fellow members and we hope you will take advantage of them.
The WSG Annual Meeting will be held in Rome in September of this year. I am grateful for the support of our Italian law firm Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners for hosting this event, and I am confident that it will be a superb experience.
At our last annual meeting in Cape Town, we had identified as priorities recruiting, increasing the recording of referrals using our WSG Referral Tracker found on the website, and increasing participation of young lawyers through the Millennial studies we have done and other means. The Board will be discussing these important issues at our next board meeting in Dallas, but of course, I welcome your suggestions and contributions.
We began the year with a warm welcome announcing our new member: TSMP Law Corporation, Legal, Singapore. I also want to welcome new members that will be announced very soon Umaña & Asociados, Accounting, Costa Rica and Moss Adams, Accounting, Texas.
In this time of change, I would like to reiterate how proud I am to be serving as your chair this year. Few international organizations in our fields better epitomize the virtues of mutual understanding, collaboration, and friendship across borders, cultures, languages, and disciplines like WSG does and I am confident we can make great strides together this year on behalf of our members as the leading international network of our kind.
On behalf of our Executive Committee and the WSG Board of Directors, I wish you all the best for the year ahead, and I encourage all of our members to take advantage of WSG’s many benefits.
Larry B. Pascal, Chair
Haynes and Boone, LLP (Texas)
