1. Economic Challenges of the Euro Area

Ardo Hansson, Governor of the Bank of Estonia, covered the economic challenges of the Euro area and discussed the effects of the Eurosystem’s policies and the affects of those policies on current key financing conditions and the outlook for the coming years. This presentation also highlighted the side effects of accommodative monetary policies and included the impact on fiscal incentives, structural reforms and financial stability.

2. Use of Project Management Skills and Methodologies Within Law Firms

This panel discussed the strong assumption that the legal profession is changing drastically (AI, more competition, customers demand for alternative pricing). The panel also explored managerial challenges that legal firms face, how firms conventionally deal with these challenges in terms of best practices in project management and what strategies can be implemented to better benefit legal firms.

3. An Exploration of Acceptable and Unacceptable European Processes in Crimea, South Sudan, Abkhazia and Catalonia in Contrast to the Rest of the World

Dr. René Värk discussed the self-determination of European nations and their relation to modern local and global politics. The presentation explored the historical roots of self-determination from the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776 to the basic principle for uniting and dissolving states in Europe and establishing universal peace. With a focus on this controversial principle, Dr. Värk discussed the reconciliation of self-determination with territorial integrity and whether self-determination has lost its significance in various European countries.

4. European Chaos: What is Next?

This panel explored a variety of specific challenges to stability in some of our members jurisdictions, from the purely political (Scotland) to the military (Ukraine). Each panelist provided examples of cases in each of the affected jurisdictions (Scotland, Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Hungary) by this ongoing uncertainty. Despite the issues discussed, all of the affected jurisdictions were still performing strongly in terms of inward investment.

5. Digital On-boarding according to AML4

This presentation discussed enhancements to Europe’s Anti-Money Laundering system. Mr. Aivar Paul offered an overview of potentially overwhelming AML4 processes and procedures including identification, verification and monitoring. Mr. Paul also shared guidance for building an effective system to prevent the exploitation of corporations’ financial systems for money laundering and terrorist financing.

6. Implementation of AML and KYC within Our Law Firms and Joint Projects
