Karanović & Nikolić Film Production Guide Presented at the Sarajevo Film Festival

August, 2016 -

Recognising the great potential for film production and post production in South East Europe, a group of legal experts have gathered to develop industry expertise and work with organisations and Governments supporting this fledgling sector.

Karanović & Nikolić is proud to announce its continued cooperation with theSarajevo Film Festival(SFF) in 2016 as well, developing a new level of collaboration this time. More precisely, this year saw Karanović & Nikolić participate in the "CineLink Industry Days" a part of the festival that hosted prominent members of the European film business community for a series of expert panels on various topics of relevance, chairing one of them in the process. Our panel was headlined "Changing Film Financing Landscape in the Region: What will the Surge inProduction Incentive Schemes Bring?"and it presented an ideal platform for us to launch our latest industry group for Entertainment Law as well as to present our Film Production Guide – produced with the help of the SFF and the first in a series of similar guides which will deal with specific areas of the Entertainment industry.

Leonid Ristev, Senior Associate at Karanović & Nikolić, moderated the panel which hosted Boban Jevtić, the Director of Film Centre Serbia, and Sanja Ravlić, representative ofthe Croatian Audio-visual Centre (HAVC). The panel sparked significant interest as every seat in the conference room was taken, and the guests were provided with a lively discussion on many of the topics touched upon by the guide, focusing on the overview of incentives offered by the countries in the SEE region, as well as on other underlying regulatory factors which are expected to shape the outlook of film production in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Serbia in the next couple of years.

By informing European and US players in particular about the real opportunities available for them in these markets and highlighting the legal and regulatory challenges faced, we hope to spark an even greater interest in film production and eventually the development of new jobs in this dynamic sector.
