Two Haynes and Boone Lawyers Named to Latinvex Top 100

February, 2018 - Dallas, Texas

Haynes and Boone, LLP Partners Larry Pascal and Jorge Labastida have been selected by Latinvex for its 2018 ranking of the top 100 lawyers handling legal business in Latin America.

The editorial and research staffs of Latinvex, the Miami-based publisher of news and analysis on Latin America business, choose lawyers based on a combination of factors, including their recent track records on major deals, the prominence of their firms in Latin America and rankings by third parties such as Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and Thomson Reuters.

"We congratulate Larry and Jorge, who are immensely skilled lawyers with substantial experience handling high-profile transactions in Latin America and beyond," said Managing Partner Tim Powers. "This recognition from Latinvex also speaks to the overall strength of our Latin America practice and our decades-long commitment to and presence in the region."

Pascal, the chair of Haynes and Boone's Americas Practice Group and co-chair of its International Practice Group, was singled out for his work in corporate and M&A matters, particularly involving aviation issues. Latinvex sources complimented Pascal for "his deep interdisciplinary understanding of Latin American legal regimes - commercial and regulatory -- for the aviation industry." The publication further cited Pascal's work advising clients such as American Airlines and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), along with "a wide range of clients on business matters in Latin America."

Labastida, a partner in the Finance Practice Group at Haynes and Boone, SC in Mexico City, was praised for his work in banking, finance, and capital markets matters. "He has ample experience in structured cross-border finance, project finance and real estate finance, including securitizations, multi-jurisdictional tax-advantaged finance and structured leasing," Latinvex said. The publication highlighted his work advising Blackstone in its $3.3 billion purchase of the Mexican real estate portfolio of GE Real Estate and the largest Mexican pension fund, Afore XXI-Banorte, in its joint venture with Canada-based La Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec (CDPQ) for the establishment of a $2.1 billion Mexican infrastructure fund.

Haynes and Boone has one of the largest Latin America/Caribbean practices among AmLaw 100 firms, with 60 lawyers serving clients from our Dallas, Houston, Mexico City, New York, London, Washington D.C., and Austin offices. These lawyers are native speakers or fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French and are comfortable working with civil law and international law concepts. In 2017, Latinvex ranked Haynes and Boone: first among law firms in Aviation and Real Estate, among the top five in Environment, Energy, and Trade, top 10 in Mining and Banking and Finance, and top 20 in Corporate/M&A and doing business in Latin America.
