Ed's Practice has emphasized two areas: the negotiation and enforcement of fuel supply contracts and labor and employment law on behalf of management.

FUEL SUPPLY MATTERS
He has represented both coal producers and electric utilities in coal supply contract matters—producers in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wyoming, and electric utilities in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He also represented Bethlehem Steel and Armco Steel in coking coal supply negotiations and Duquesne Light, Mobil Oil, and Cities Service Oil with respect to uranium supply contracts. He negotiated a contract mining agreement for Jamaican bauxite on behalf of a joint venture between Alcoa and Kaiser Aluminum. He represented Equitable Gas in the Claims Estimation Proceedings of the Columbia Gas Transmission Company bankruptcy, a case involving claims in excess of thirteen billion dollars arising out of Columbia's rejection of more than 4,000 executory gas supply contracts. He testified as an expert witness before the Kentucky Public Service Commission and the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada, and in commercial arbitrations in Florida, Illinois, Indiana and Utah.

He was selected to serve as a party-appointed arbitrator several times, three times by Peabody Coal, including a case involving a ninety million dollar dispute related to the largest underground mine in America and one of America's largest public utilities.

LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT LAW MATTERS
Ed's labor law experience has included union election campaigns, unfair labor practice hearings, collective bargaining negotiations, arbitrations and litigation. His employment law practice has involved wrongful discharge litigation, employment discrimination charges and litigation before the EEOC and analogous state agencies in California, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia, and wage and hour and prevailing wage litigation. He has conducted lengthy negotiations with the U.S. Departments of Labor and Interior with respect to affirmative action plans.

His labor and employment clients have included Joy Mining Machinery, Duquesne Light, Consolidation Coal, Mobil, Continental Oil, Mellon Bank and the City of Fairmont, WV.

Ed previously served as the managing partner of Dinsmore's Pittsburgh office and, for thirteen years, as the managing partner of a prior firm.
