Graduated in 1978 from the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) Law School, specializing in Commercial, Banking and Insurance Law. Obtained a Master’s Degree (LLM) from the Center for the Study of Financial Institutions of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) Law School in Philadelphia, PA USA in 1982. Participated in training courses in private and public trusts at Nacional Financiera (NAFIN) and BANAMEX in Mexico City in 1982, and in CAFTA-DR at the Central American Institute of Business Administration (INCAE) in Managua, Nicaragua, in 2005. Has attended Business Management Seminars for Corporate Lawyers co-sponsored by INCAE and Harvard University in 1978 and 1979, in Managua, Nicaragua, Orientation Courses in the US Legal System in Georgetown University (1980) and George Washington University (1999), both in Washington DC and the Management Program for Lawyers at Yale School of Management in New Haven, CT, USA in 2009.
Founder of J.R. Paz & Asociados in 1982 which in 2005 became a member of Consortium Centro America Abogados, a regional law firm, acting as director for Honduras to present.
He is a member of the Colegio de Abogados de Honduras (CAH), the American Bar Association (ABA), the Inter-American Bar Association (IABA), the International Bar Association (IBA) and the World Jurist Association (WJA).
Has an extensive practice in international trade and financial transactions, banking and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and agency and distribution agreements.

Significant Accomplishments

He founded the firm J.R. Paz and Associates in 1982, currently Consortium Legal - Honduras, he is a partner and CEO.

He was a substitute judge of the Supreme Court in Honduras, (1990 - 1994).
Has participated in cross-border financial transactions for amounts ranging between US$ 30.0 Million and US$ 1,700.0 Million, involving international banks and local and regional borrowers, structuring guarantee trusts for some of them.

Has participated in cross-border mergers and acquisitions for amounts ranging between US$ 50.0 Million and US$ 650.0 Million, involving foreign purchasers and local sellers.
Has handled a Chinese US$ 250.0 Million investment in the Honduran government-owned telephone corporation.
Has handled an European manufacturer vessel sale to the Honduran government for US$ 49.0 Million.
Managed US$ 300.0 Million foreign investment in agro-industry and power generation in Honduras.
He specializes in international trade and financial transactions, banking and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, and distribution agency.
