Marisa represents clients’ interests before Congress and regulatory bodies, advancing creative and strategic solutions to complex issues impacting a wide range of industries.

Marisa’s extensive background in advocacy and legislative strategy provides her experience in educating, informing, and advising rule makers and industry leaders. She maintains a broad practice, providing strategic solutions to clients on a myriad of matters within the energy, technology, retail, and financial sectors.

Marisa works directly with her clients to meet their overall business objectives while simultaneously navigating the developing regulatory environment regarding federal legislation and policy largely relating to privacy and data security. A well-rounded legal practitioner, Marisa assists the firm’s environmental and energy teams with complex legislative matters involving climate change and energy regulation.

Before she joined Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, Marisa was Senior Director of Government Relations at the National Retail Federation (NRF), where she was responsible for emerging public policy priorities and a broad range of advocacy efforts to support global economic growth, foster innovation, and promote technology in the retail industry. She also previously worked in the US House of Representatives as the Assistant Director of Floor Operations, where she served four years on the floor team that managed and implemented all aspects of legislative strategy and operation for Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

Relevant Experience

  • Represented data company in the development of business-smart and consumer-conscious policy positions and advocating with legislators for federal privacy and data legislation.
  • Assisted global data and marketing firm with federal policy issues related to data privacy and data breach notice legislation, drafting federally pre-emptive data breach notice legislation to relieve the industry of the disparate legal burdens caused by multiple changing state data breach notice laws, and guidance on congressional and regulatory investigations of the data industry.
  • Assisted in the representation of multinational energy company with respect to advice and strategy regarding environmental regulation impacting fuels and refineries, including the federal renewable fuels mandates and Clean Air Act fuel standards as well as advice and strategy regarding legislative proposals affecting same.
  • Assisted energy coalition in the monitoring of PUC proceedings relating to electric vehicle rate base cases.
  • Assisted with the representation of collation of energy companies regarding EPA’s review and promulgation of certain National Ambient Air Quality Standards, including scientific and legal basis, and impacts on state and local governments, manufacturing, and job creation.
