A commercial disputes practitioner specialising in insolvency, reconstruction and risk management, Nick Anson provides advisory services and manages high profile litigation on behalf of lenders, insolvency practitioners, directors, debtors and creditors, including the public sector.

Nick has specialised expertise in the Financial Services industry and frequently provides advice to the major Australian banks in insolvency and enforcement contexts.

Nick's practice focuses on insolvency advice and litigation, in particular banking, finance and insolvency litigation. This includes acting for creditors, defending unfair preference claims, drafting retention of title clauses and advising directors of distressed companies in relation to personal liability issues. He also has experience in contested capital restructures and schemes of arrangement. Nick has advised various secured lenders on a range of matters including security enforcement, invoice finance facilities, priority disputes, termination of derivative contracts, workouts and appointment issues. More broadly, Nick assists clients to manage insolvency and litigation risk in a wide range of corporate transactions.

Nick's strong track record in litigation includes a leading role acting for Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited in connection with the collapse of Opes Prime Stockbroking, advising on the bank's exposure under securities lending agreements and acting for the bank defending claims instituted by investors in various Australian jurisdictions. He also advised the receivers and managers of Great Southern.

Among his longstanding clients are Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited and McGrathNicol.

Since 2007, he has lectured in the Masters in Law program at the University of Melbourne in Corporate Insolvency and Reconstruction.
