Phoebe Anderson is an integral member of the Oil and Gas and Commercial team at Haynes and Boone in London. She has recently been recognised as a “rising star” in the Oil and Gas section of the 2020 UK edition of The Legal 500, the international directory of law firms.

Phoebe's practice focuses on projects for the offshore exploration and production (E&P) of oil and gas, and clients value her in-depth knowledge and capability in this specialist sector. She also has experience in commercial contracts generally and regularly advises on contractual matters.

Phoebe joined Haynes and Boone in April 2016 after beginning her legal career in Australia, where she represented clients in the energy, oil and gas, and construction sectors for seven years at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, Australia’s largest legal partnership. She has also worked as in-house legal counsel for a leading UK telecommunications service provider, negotiating business-to-business contracts and supporting the digital development team. Phoebe is an Australian qualified lawyer which allows her to practice law in England.

At Haynes and Boone, Phoebe advises the firm’s offshore contractor clients on complex contractual matters, and negotiates contracts for drilling units and floating production storage and offload (FPSO) facilities in offshore locations around the world. She also advises on shipbuilding contracts and disputes, acting for either the shipyard or the buyer.

Phoebe is dedicated to her clients and continuously strives to improve the quality of service she provides. She has a versatile skill set and is capable of taking on new challenges. Despite having a background in predominantly non-contentious matters, Phoebe’s specialisation in offshore matters now allows her to advise clients on both commercial projects and disputes in this sector, including arbitration. She understands her clients’ commercial objectives and adopts a business-like common sense approach to her work, ensuring that her clients achieve the best possible commercial outcome and minimising the risk of potential disputes.

Phoebe works closely with her clients’ contract managers and in-house counsel, often providing training sessions on contract reviews and key legal issues. In addition to her client matters, Phoebe regularly contributes articles for various legal and industry publications, including the Petroleum Review and Lloyd's List, and has assisted the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) to update their offshore daywork drilling contract.

Phoebe also undertakes pro bono work for a charity supporting seriously ill children in conjunction with LawWorks.
