Yukuo Takenaka, President and CEO of Takenaka Partners LLC, was featured in an in-depth profile of the life of Paul Yonamine, CEO of Central Pacific Bank and Hawaii Business Magazine’s CEO of the Year for 2022. In his profile, Mr. Yonamine describes Mr. Takenaka, “as a charismatic business developer who remains his mentor today”.
Mr. Yonamine has led transformative changes at Hawai’i’s fourth largest bank, improved its financial results and helped drive innovation across the state.
In a section subtitled “A Tale of Two Cultures”, Mr. Yonamine recalls joining Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) in 1979, where he was assigned to the Japanese Practice Division in Los Angeles. Under the guidance of Mr. Takenaka, Mr. Yonamine learned to value the three K’s, “kansha, to have gratitude for people who help you; kenkyo, to have humility; and kon-jō, to have the courage to make the right decisions." According to Mr Yonamine, "that’s a very simple lesson that young entrepreneurs should embrace."
