The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has extended the timeline for filing the 2021 data audit report from 15 March 2021 till 30 June 2021.
In 2019, the National Information Technology and Development Agency (‘NITDA’) issued the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (‘NDPR’). The NDPR requires that where an organisation processes the personal data of more than 2000 persons within a 12-month period, the Company must engage a Data Protection Compliance Organisation (DPCO) to audit its compliance with the NDPR for the 12-month period. Also, a report of the audit must be filed with NITDA by 15th March of the following year.
However, due to the continued effect of COVID-19 pandemic and the renewed interest in compliance, the NITDA management has extended the statutory time to file 2021 data audit report from 15th March 2021 to 30th June 2021. Organisations that fall within this category are therefore encouraged to engage the services of a DPCO and comply with the provisions of the NDPR.
