Social Mobility in Action – The Shoosmiths Foundation and End Youth Homelessness
by Shoosmiths LLP
On 9 June 2022 we organised Social Mobility in Action -The Shoosmiths Foundation and End Youth Homelessness’ webinar. The event was hosted by Simon Boss, Shoosmiths, with special guests Faye Edmondson of End Youth Homelessness and Megan Stott of Deliveroo.
The Shoosmiths Foundation, launched in 2021, is a grant making body working to help address societal issues, to empower sustainable change and to improve the lives of the people and the environment in the UK.
The webinar provided the opportunity to hear from Faye Edmondson, End Youth Homelessness (EYH), one of the chosen charities in our first funding round, to discuss its programmes aimed at improving the social mobility of homeless young people and ending youth homelessness on a national scale. Faye explained how EYH is helping young vulnerable people into work, and how Shoosmiths funding has been able to support these efforts.
We were also joined by Megan Stott from Deliveroo, a Shoosmiths client, and also a charity partner for End Youth Homelessness, to hear about how Deliveroo is supporting the work of the charity. Megan explained employment opportunities at Deliveroo, why it wanted to provide opportunities for EYH young persons and how Deliveroo went about recruiting their first EYH young person.
Simon, in turn provided background to the Shoosmiths Foundation and its aims, the difference it wants to make and why it has supported EYH.
A subsequent discussion enabled attendees to ask questions of Simon, Faye and Megan and to find out more about the latest call for Shoosmiths Foundation grant applications which again have a social mobility focus – closing date Friday 24 June 2022.
Faye commented ‘It was wonderful to be able to talk alongside partners, Shoosmiths and Deliveroo, about how EYH’s Employability Fund is delivering social mobility for some of the most disadvantaged young people in the UK. EYH is privileged to have such committed partners.’
Social mobility is a business priority for Shoosmiths, End Youth Homelessness and Deliveroo. The webinar showed how three organisations have been able to come together and provide innovative solutions that change the lives of young persons affected by homelessness.
