Mirgor Acquires Brightstar’s Local Assets.

Buenos Aires, 16 November 2020. On October 22nd, Mirgor acquired the local assets of the US company Brightstar, manufacturer of LG and Samsung cell phones. With this important acquisition, Argentine company Mirgor, a leader in the cellular phone production sector, will control 100% of Brightstar Argentina S.A. and Brightstar Fueguina S.A.

The Mirgor Group will assume the operation of the acquired companies, which will continue to develop their activities, thereby protecting the jobs that the industry generates on the island of Tierra del Fuego. This acquisition will allow Mirgor to consolidate its position as one of the main cell phone manufacturers in the country.

The Mirgor Group, founded more than 35 years ago, covers various sectors of the Argentine industry: auto parts and consumer electronics products manufacturing, technology & innovation, agriculture, retail, distribution, and logistics. It employs more than 2300 people. Brightstar Corp. is a private US corporation founded in 1997. It provides specialized global wireless distribution services, serving mobile device manufacturers, mobile operators, and retailers. It offers devices and accessories distribution, supply chains, protection and insurance of cell phones, among other services within the wireless telecommunications industry. It employs more than 4000 people.

In this deal, Estudio Cueto Rua, Mercau Saavedra & Biritos advised the buyer, while Beccar Varela advised the seller. Andrés Mercau Saavedra, a partner of Cueto Rua, said he was pleased to have brought to fruition an operation of this nature “in a totally new environment, characterized by marathon virtual sessions, where negotiations and information and documentation exchange were carried out almost entirely virtually”. Tomás Allende, a partner of Beccar Varela, said it was a very challenging deal “due to the context, the limitations imposed by the pandemic, and the timeframe to carry it out.”
