Bradley Awards 2021 Diversity Scholarships to Law Students From The George Washington University and Mississippi College

March, 2021 - Birmingham, Alabama

Bradley is pleased to announce that the firm has awarded its 2021 Diversity Scholarships to law students Gillian Mak from The George Washington University Law School and Jaime Weida from Mississippi College School of Law.

As part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, Bradley’s diversity scholarship promotes the education of law students who reflect the diversity of the legal marketplace and who are traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession. Each scholarship includes a summer clerkship. Ms. Mak will clerk in Bradley’s Nashville office, and Ms. Weida will clerk in the firm’s Jackson office.

“We are very pleased to welcome Gillian and Jaime to Bradley this summer as our diversity scholarship recipients,” said Bradley’s Director of Inclusion and Diversity George Medlock. “They share the firm’s strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal industry and have proven themselves as outstanding, diligent students of the law.”

A first-year law student, Ms. Mak is a member of the Student Health Law Association and the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association. Her work includes analyzing state election developments and health policy issues, including the Affordable Care Act, nursing staff ratios, Medicare and Medicaid. She also collaborated with executive and lobbyist teams to determine federal and state lobbying opportunities for regional hospital systems, implemented tracking processes for health legislation, regulations and executive orders that affected hospitals across seven states, and drafted communications explaining policy changes at hospitals and clinics due to COVID-19 and Hurricane Michael. Ms. Mak earned her B.A. from Hamilton College.

Ms. Weida will return to the firm’s Jackson office for her clerkship this summer, after serving as a summer clerk in the same office last year. As a second-year law student, Ms. Weida ranks in the top of her law class. She is a member of the Mississippi College Law Review and the Moot Court Board. She is a 2L senator of the Law Student Bar Association, a Dean’s Ambassador, a Legal Research Fellow, and secretary of the Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association. Ms. Weida earned her B.A. from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Bradley is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce and culture at the firm and engages in significant efforts in this regard. The firm’s efforts include regularly organizing, hosting and participating in programs, seminars and panels aimed at increasing diversity in the legal profession.
