San Antonio Business Journal to Honor Pat Ryan with 2021 Veterans in Business Award for Pro Bono Work Supporting Veterans and Active-Duty Military

October, 2021 - Chicago, Illinois

Dykema, a leading national law firm, is proud to announce that J. Patrick (“Pat”) Ryan, a member in the firm’s business services department, will receive a 2021 Veterans in Business award from the San Antonio Business Journal. Ryan and fellow honorees will be highlighted during a special event on Thursday, November 4, 2021, and be profiled in a subsequent San Antonio Business Journal special publication.

The San Antonio Business Journal presents the Veterans in Business awards to honor San Antonio’s business leaders and companies for outstanding practices not only in business but in supporting veterans in the workplace and beyond.

For the past two years, Pat has worked on a pro bono basis with Sound Off, a veterans/active duty mental health support program in the process of launching nationally. Sound Off provides a hotline via mobile app for mental health support to veterans and active-duty military. With many such individuals hesitant to seek assistance with mental health, for a variety of reasons, Sound Off is available to provide free, confidential counseling resources on an anonymous basis. The program enlists both licensed mental health professionals and “Battle Buddies,” who are trained veterans or active duty service members. Veterans may choose if they would prefer to speak with a professional clinician or a trained peer who has walked their path.

Through his work with Sound Off, Pat has led a team of colleagues working on the legal matters for Sound Off and works on drafting, developing, and reviewing documents such as privacy policies, terms of use, clinician and Battle Buddy agreements, and sponsorship agreements.

In his everyday practice, Pat advises clients on corporate, M&A, securities, and franchising matters. He has counseled clients on a full range of corporate and securities matters, including private and public debt and equity financings; mergers and acquisitions; initial and secondary public offerings; going-private transactions; periodic SEC filings; SEC investigations; venture capital and other private financings; joint ventures; general contract negotiations; and other corporate matters.

Pat received a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
