Vindication for Attorney David Weintraub as Broward State Attorney’s Office Dismisses Extortion Case
Miami – June 12, 2024 – It was a great day in court for attorney David A. Weintraub as the Broward County State Attorney’s Office dismissed the extortion charge it filed against Weintraub late last year.
In October 2023, the State charged Mr. Weintraub with extortion based on claims that Weintraub threatened to expose the accuser’s criminal past if she did not resign from their condominium association’s board of directors. Mr. Weintraub and his attorneys, David M. Kubiliun and Adriana Collado-Hudak of Greenspoon Marder’s White Collar and Criminal Defense practice group, vigorously asserted that the claims were false and malicious, and they presented the State Attorney’s Office with information about the accuser’s background, witness statements, and case law. Consequently, Assistant State Attorney Janine Rice dismissed the charge.
“We are grateful that ASA Rice considered our arguments and further investigated these absurd allegations,” said Ms. Collado-Hudak. She added, “David Weintraub is an exceptional person, guardian ad litem, and advocate, and we are thrilled that he can move on from these unjustified accusations.” Mr. Kubiliun noted, “Justice was done, and Mr. Weintraub’s well-earned reputation is preserved. This is the best result we could have hoped for.”
