Shoosmiths refreshes employee development proposition with One Shoosmiths to boost talent retention and attraction
Shoosmiths has introduced its new firmwide talent development framework, One Shoosmiths, to ensure that the firm’s people perform, develop and progress.
The framework, created using employee feedback, working groups and up-to-date external legal industry benchmarks, provides a structured approach to career development and clear pathways for progression.
One Shoosmiths offers employees at all levels - including legal advisers and business services staff - transparent criteria across three pillars for their respective roles:
- Expectations - clear sets of expectations for different career pathways and categories ensure that employees understand their responsibilities on an individual and team basis, promoting accountability and efficiency in teams and departments.
- Development - refreshed and enhanced internal training programmes and digital learning content align with the expectations set for each role, providing employees with the necessary challenge and support to develop the knowledge and skills required to excel.
- Progression - the framework clearly outlines how employee performance and contribution influences factors such as remuneration and promotions.
One Shoosmiths builds on the firm’s current process of line managers conducting one-to-one tri-annual development conversations with members of their teams and further encourages two-way dialogue regarding objectives, feedback and focus areas.
Chair Kirsten Hewson said: “One Shoosmiths is an investment in our culture and truly elevates our employee development offering for our existing and future talent.. Through this framework, we are sharpening our focus on nurturing our people, so they have ample opportunity - and the right training and support - to take charge of their careers and grow them at Shoosmiths.
“We are excited to put One Shoosmiths into action as an essential step in enabling our 2030 growth strategy. By ensuring our people can flourish in their roles, advance in their professions, and meet the evolving needs of our firm, we lay the right foundations for continuing to serve our clients in the best way possible.”
