Shepherd and Wedderburn to Advise SMart Wind Limited on Development of Round 3 zone

June, 2010 - Glasgow, Scotland

Shepherd and Wedderburn has won the contract to advise SMart Wind Limited as it develops the 4GW Hornsea zone, one of the UK’s biggest Round 3 offshore wind zones.

The leading UK law firm, which advised SMart Wind on its successful Round 3 bid, was successful following a competitive tender.

SMart Wind Limited is a joint venture company, equally owned by Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH.

Shepherd and Wedderburn will advise SMart Wind on consenting, grid connection, third party leases, contracts and health and safety as it develops the zone in a series of blocks, with each one being around 500 MW.

A SMart Wind spokesperson stated: "We interviewed the best law firms in this market and all were excellent. We were impressed by Shepherd and Wedderburn’s proactive approach, commitment and experience."

Patricia Hawthorn, lead consenting partner on the project commented "We are delighted to be appointed to advise on what will be a ground breaking major infrastructure project at a time of significant change and improvement to the planning system in England and Wales."

Liz McRobb, partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn, leads the team. She said: “This appointment builds on the work we did with Mainstream and Siemens on their bid to the Crown Estate throughout last year. We are delighted to be involved in developing this significant offshore zone, which will be an important contributor to meeting the UK’s renewable energy targets.”
