Shepherd and Wedderburn Acts for William Grant & Sons in Purchase of Drambuie

September, 2014 - Edinburgh, Scotland

Shepherd and Wedderburn has acted for William Grant & Sons in its acquisition of the iconic Scottish liqueur, Drambuie, from the MacKinnon family.

Reputed to have been the tipple of Bonnie Prince Charlie, the Prince gave the drink to Captain John MacKinnon in 1746 as a reward for helping him flee George II’s troops following defeat at Culloden a year earlier. Drambuie, a mixture of whisky, honey and spices, has been produced commercially since 1909, with over 250,000 cases of the drink now sold each year.

Corporate Partner, Danny Lee, who led the Shepherd and Wedderburn team, commented: "We are delighted to have supported the transaction team at William Grant & Sons in securing Drambuie. The acquisition adds to an exceptional portfolio, which includes some of the world’s leading brands of Scotch whisky, including Glenfiddich, the Balvenie range of handcrafted single malts and, Grant’s, as well as Hendrick's gin and Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum".
