PLMJ advises Dixons Carphone on the sale of Phone House Portugal

September, 2015 - Lisbon, Portugal

PLMJ advised Dixons Carphone on the sale of Phone House Portugal to a group of Portuguese investors. The operation was completed on 31 August.

For Abel de Barbosa Mendonça – a senior associate in the cross-border projects group of PLMJ’s corporate/M&A practice – who coordinated this operation, “the departure of Dixons Carphone from Portugal was planned and concluded in a way that would guarantee the continuity of the business and, as a consequence, maintain the jobs. The complexity of the negotiations resulted, above all, from the constant concern of the parties to provide Phone House Portugal with the means necessary for it to develop and grow outside the group”.

Dixons Carphone is a multinational in the domestic appliances and telecommunications retail sector that was created a year ago by the merger of Dixons Retail with Carphone Warehouse Group. It was the sole shareholder of Phone House in Portugal, a chain that currently has around 750 employees and 130 stores.
