Atsumi & Sakai and Tricor K.K. Launch a One-Stop Japan FDI Legal and Business Support Service

October, 2016 - Japan

Although the Japanese government's "Invest Japan" program is seeking to make Japan a leading target for global FDI through the simplification and relaxation of onerous regulations and procedures, there are still many legal and practical matters inhibiting foreign investment into Japan; these range from a legal system unfamiliar to foreign investors, to inherent language difficulties, cultural differences, and a relatively small pool of professional advisers with the appropriate expertise and experience. In order to address these issues, leading Tokyo law firm Atsumi & Sakai ("A&S") and Tokyo-based corporate services provider Tricor K.K. ("Tricor") have expanded their existing alliance with the launch of a "One-Stop Japan FDI Support Service"* to assist foreign investors seeking to invest in Japan, and subsequently work with them as they grow their Japanese businesses.

In providing this service, A&S and Tricor will leverage off a combination of the ability of A&S to field teams of expert Japanese lawyers and experienced international lawyers, and Tricor's in-depth knowledge and years of experience of assisting foreign companies in the Japanese market to provide a comprehensive range of Japanese legal and business support services for FDI investors to establish and grow their Japanese businesses, including:
- pre-investment research
- due diligence
- regulatory advice
- selection of the appropriate investment vehicle
- assistance with visas & work permits
- serviced offices and nominee directors
- HR and accounting
- financing
- permits, registrations and filings

The firms are able to offer their services in a number of foreign languages, in particular English, Chinese, and German; as the only Japanese law firm with a London office, A&S can also provide real-time advice on Japanese law to businesses in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the Americas considering investing in Japan.
