WSG member firm, Shoosmiths LLP, hosted a 60-minute webinar discussing Shared & Halved - Business leaders.
The COVID-19 crisis continues to affect all our businesses, in ways that we never thought possible. At a time where the overriding message is to "pull together" as a nation, companies are eager to do all they can to support the national effort to beat this pandemic.
In doing so, business is making great strides to keep key workers, essential staff and the public safe. However, companies are naturally nervous about their legal liability (both from a criminal and civil perspective). The question of how you can operate safely, must be at the forefront of the minds of those who employ or are in control of personnel, particularly where those employees still have contact with the general public. Equally, those businesses which have adapted and are exploring innovative new ways of responding to help the nation, such as manufacturers of hospital and respiratory equipment, logistics and deliveries of essential goods, are acutely aware of the legal risks they may face, by asking their employees to come back to work.
Shoosmiths looked at sharing best practice and answered some of your questions about potential civil and criminal liabilities (arising both from risks to employees and the public) as well as the practical day to day operational challenges posed by coronavirus.
