Ron Forster specialises in mergers and acquisitions. He advises on a wide range of public and private company contested and uncontested takeovers, including those involving managed investment schemes.

His in-depth knowledge of the law and tactics of public company takeovers has made him a trusted adviser to some of the firm's largest clients. Ron was one of the lead partners in the successful takeover by Mirvac of the Westpac Office Trust for over $1 billion. He also advised the bid consortium which undertook the first successful unsolicited takeover bid of an Australian listed public company by a private equity fund, valued at $450 million, and a member of the consortium which made the $11 billion recommended off-market takeover of Qantas.

With over 25 years in practice, Ron has extensive experience in both domestic and cross-border transactions across multiple industry sectors including the financial services sector, manufacturing, bioscience, media and broadcasting, and the resources and oil and gas sectors.

In the financial services sector, Ron acted on the Australian law aspects of the ?71 billion bid by RBS for ABN Amro.

In the resources sector, Ron has acted for Antafogasta plc on its successful public company takeovers of Equatorial Mining Limited, and Tethyan Copper Company. as well as Areva on their strategic alliance with uranium explorer Summit Resources. In the oil and gas sector, Ron acted for the Thai national oil company, PTTEP on the acquisition of Coogee Resources Limited for an enterprise value of approximately $620 million.

Ron has also advised various clients achieving successful outcomes in strategic corporate litigation matters working closely with the litigation team.

He is a member of the Corporations Law Committee of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a frequent speaker and author on wide ranging issues in the corporate sphere.
