Profile
Austin has significant experience representing and counseling clients in all phases of litigation, including pre-suit risk analysis, written discovery, taking and defending depositions, and motion practice. He has secured numerous favorable judgments and settlement agreements for his clients, and has tried numerous cases to jury verdict as a participant in the City of Houston’s Volunteer Prosecutor Program. While Austin’s practice focuses on energy and business litigation, he has broad experience representing clients across a number of industries, including oil & gas companies, financial services companies, real estate companies, construction companies, and private equity funds.
Representative Experience
- Currently representing defendant in federal and state court actions stemming from the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig failure.
- Represented officers and directors as lead associate in a complex business dispute involving claims of fraud, fraudulent transfer, conspiracy, and breach of fiduciary duty. Case settled favorably after a motion for summary judgment was filed.
- Represented international oil and gas company as lead associate prosecuting breach of contract and related claims. Case settled favorably for client after default judgment was secured and collection methods were deployed.
- Lead associate for commercial property owner involved in a contract dispute. Won summary judgment for actual damages and attorneys’ fees.
- Represented oilfield services company as lead associate in a personal injury case stemming from an alleged accident at an oil well.
- Represented large distribution company pursuing claims against an individual for theft and conversion of assets. Secured injunctive relief and a default judgment and utilized collection methods to secure full payment of damages.
- Represented Nevada-based hotel and casino that was accused of defamation, abuse of process, and malicious prosecution. Case settled favorably for client after the Plaintiffs’ depositions were taken.
- Lead associate for a medical device sales company in a number of non-compete disputes.
