Profile
Charis joined the firm as an Associate in the litigation department in 2014. He primarily practises in civil litigation and with special focus on matters relevant to corporate and commercial litigation, banking and finance, real estate law, contract law and corporate insolvency law.
He represents and advises local and international clients in all aspects relating to corporate and commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He regularly handles applications for the issuance of interim injunctive relief. Furthermore, he has acquired experience in a diverse range of disputes relating to corporate control such as shareholder disputes, joint ventures and disputes regarding share-purchase agreements.
Charis also has considerable experience in corporate insolvency and restructuring, banking litigation, real estate litigation and contractual disputes. He has been involved in numerous litigation claims for the enforcement of creditors’ claims including winding-up proceedings, appointment of examiners in insolvent companies, enforcement of share pledges, recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and subsequent execution of such judgment by obtaining charging orders and sale orders of shares in Cypriot entities. Charis has also advised and represented clients in administrative proceedings before the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission.
He advises clients on a wide range of corporate and commercial law issues including directors’ duties, shareholder rights and disputes, minority shareholder rights, appointment and duties of receivers/managers and extrajudicial enforcement of securities such as pledges and mortgages. He has been involved in various other projects, where he has undertaken the preparation of legal due diligence reports and advised on corporate and regulatory compliance matters.
Charis is regularly involved in banking litigation and debt recovery claims. He assists several domestic banking institutions in such matters. Recently, he advised a privately-owned hedge fund on the new legislation for the acquisition of credit facilities, the new regulatory framework on foreclosure and the procedure for the resolution of non-performing loans.
