Profile
Matthew Donovan is an associate attorney in the Regulatory Compliance & Defense practice group at Greenspoon Marder. Mr. Donovan provides guidance, defense, and proactive strategies to corporate clients seeking to navigate the intricate landscapes of state and federal legal compliance. His experience includes drafting and reviewing complex contractual agreements, including partnership agreements, sales and purchase agreements, privacy policies, terms of service, customer agreements, and internal policies and procedures.
With a focus on state and federal data privacy laws, Mr. Donovan assists clients with internal data collection and consent policies, data incident response plans, the nuances of applicable laws for reporting requirements, and defense against data privacy allegations. Mr. Donovan is also well-versed in data litigation trends and responses, covering aspects such as pixel tracking measures, cookie storage and transfer, CAN-SPAM violations, and alleged state violations such as wiretapping claims.
In addition to his knowledge of data privacy, Mr. Donovan advises senior management on state and federal regulatory efforts and enforcement proceedings to ensure compliance with regulatory acts such as CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CORA, FCRA, and TSR.
Prior to joining Greenspoon Marder, Mr. Donovan served as the sole general counsel for two consumer financial products organizations. In this role, he oversaw all company legal operations, human resources, regulatory compliance, licensing, contracts, litigation, and consumer and business products. His contributions spanned the implementation of compliance measures, staff training, and advisory roles in reviewing the company's marketing strategy and implementation.
Mr. Donovan’s practice is limited to federal and regulatory matters, as he is not currently barred in the state of Colorado.
Mr. Donovan earned his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law. He previously graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics at The Evergreen State College.
