Michael specializes in intellectual property law, specifically patent prosecution and litigation, on behalf of clients of all types and sizes. He has prosecuted hundreds of U.S. and international patents for a variety of technological areas, including automotive, aerospace, energy, robotics, manufacturing, medical devices, display panels, software, and artificial intelligence. Michael’s experience and practice includes the drafting and prosecution of patents, appeals before the USPTO, inter partes reviews, the preparation of patentability, validity, invalidity, noninfringement, and freedom to operate opinions, and trademark oppositions.

In addition to his extensive prosecution experience, Michael has represented clients in patent litigation suits for mechanical, electrical, optical, and software-based technologies and has experience practicing both in federal courts and before the International Trade Commission.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Michael spent nearly a decade working as an aerospace engineer with a large, multi-national energy firm, focusing on testbed simulations and validation, multidisciplinary analyses, and root cause investigations. This blend of technical, legal, and cultural experience allows Michael to grasp new technologies quickly, comprehending both the finer details and the broader implications, and communicate them in a way that clients appreciate.

Before joining Dinsmore, Michael worked as a patent attorney at an Intellectual Property firm in Alexandria, Virginia.
