Profile
Paula Surerus focuses her practice for more than a decade and has extensive experience in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and infrastructure projects.
Mrs. Surerus led numerous projects and relevant transactions in the regulated sectors of energy, aviation and telecommunication and in non-regulated sectors. Mrs. Surerus has also coordinated major corporate and asset reorganizations in Brazil of multinational companies, including those arising from Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. With respect to projects, Mr. Surerus has vast expertise in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts and in the chain of financing agreements and related collateral.
Her experience also comprises regular counsel to domestic and foreign clients in bids (both electronic and non-electronic) and administrative proceedings in general. Among other activities, her practice includes their representation in dealings with regulatory agencies and governmental bodies, assistance in the execution and management of administrative agreements and in obtaining the relevant permits. Recently, Mrs. Surerus advised companies in the defense industry, from the stage of the bid for the provision of services to the government to the management of the relevant agreements, including the negotiation of their financial and economic rebalancing.
The counsel in energy projects in general and in agreements for the supply of equipment and services to the sector also allowed Mrs. Surerus to deepen her knowledge of the Petrobras’ simplified bidding process and registration of suppliers of goods and services, adding value to her clients in this segment.
Mrs. Surerus worked as a foreign associate in a law firm of international renown in New York in 2008, assisting in international projects and agreements of financing and leasing of aircraft and negotiating international franchise agreements.
