Pieter specializes in liability and insurance law, concentrating on professional liability, product liability, corporate liability and related insurance aspects, as well as on non-insured inter-company liability.

Pieter is particularly interested in liability for medical professionals, including medical disciplinary law.

Such international legal directories as Chambers and Partners have referred to him as an authority in his field.

Education
Pieter van Regteren Altena graduated from the University of Groningen in 1980.

Significant Accomplishments
Since 1985, he has represented the DES Foundation in legal proceedings in the Netherlands, including help with damage-payment arrangements managed by the Foundation for Management of Third-party Funds (Beheer Derdengelden), based on proposed legislation on the Payment of group Damages. He has also acted for food manufacturers on liability issues. Since 2000, he has been involved in the defence of tobacco companies against claims from smokers.
