Shafkat’s practice focuses on advising corporate and individual policyholders in complex, high-stakes insurance coverage matters.

Shafkat represents and counsels policyholders in the preservation and recovery of insurance assets. Shafkat’s experience includes representing clients in pre-litigation coverage analysis and correspondence with their insurer to all stages of pleading, discovery and motions practice. His insurance recovery experience extends to complex disputes under various lines of insurance, including directors and officers liability, errors and omissions liability, professional liability, commercial general liability, asbestos liability and property policies.

While in law school, Shafkat served as a Senior Articles Editor of the Cardozo Law Review. In addition, Shafkat was an extern for the Honorable Judge Lorna G. Schofield in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

• Represented corporate client in insurance coverage action stemming from allegation of fraudulent conveyance.
• Represented various corporate clients in insurance coverage action under allegations arising from inadequate considerations post-merger.
• Represented start-up company in insurance coverage action arising from an investigation initiated by the SEC.
• Represented individual in an insurance coverage action arising from allegations of fraud initiated by the DOJ.
• Analyzed policies spanning several decades for issues related to allocation of insurance coverage for asbestos-related claim.
• Analyzed coverage for COVID-19 losses for various industries, including a multinational leasing and management firm, multinational restaurant company and national window and door manufacturing company.
