Profile

Suedy provides insightful counsel to clients in complex environmental matters. She regularly advises clients in environmental regulatory compliance, enforcement defense and litigation, and transactional matters at the federal, state, and local levels.

Suedy represents private entities across a range of sectors, including manufacturing, oil and gas, alternative fuels and small family businesses. She also works with municipal clients. Her broad experience with complex environmental matters covers the major federal environmental statutes, including the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA); Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA); Clean Water Act (CWA); and Clean Air Act (CAA). In addition, Suedy has experience with the California equivalent of many of these federal laws, as well as California’s Proposition 65 and AB 32.

Prior to joining Hunton & Williams LLP, Suedy interned at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where she assisted with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) guidance and ocean policy planning. Suedy worked as a litigation consultant prior to practicing law.

Suedy is admitted to practice before the US District Courts for the Central and Eastern Districts of California. She maintains an active pro bono practice, including assisting numerous domestic violence victims secure restraining orders and an army veteran submit a petition for a discharge upgrade to receive veterans’ benefits.

Relevant Experience

  • Performed pre-acquisition environmental due diligence for client seeking to acquire competitor’s operations.
  • Represented municipality in citizen suit alleging violations of CWA at wastewater treatment facility.
  • Represented client seeking contribution for remediation costs and an injunction under RCRA and state law.
  • Counseled client regarding closure of a hazardous waste management unit in compliance with state and federal law.
  • Defended a retail client in connection with an enforcement action for the sale of noncompliant products by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
