Christian advises sponsors, lenders, contractors and suppliers in project development, finance and asset acquisition and disposition transactions across the energy, oil and gas, infrastructure and mining and metals sectors.

With more than 25 years of experience in the US, Latin America and Africa, Christian represents sponsors, lenders, suppliers and offtakers in all aspects of the development, acquisition, financing and divestiture of energy, oil and gas, infrastructure and mining projects, with a particular focus on energy transition and cross-border transactions.

Christian’s primary focus is on the contracts related to the business of each individual project. Given his deep understanding of the challenges related to the development and implementation of the different types of projects and the particular needs of sponsors, lenders, suppliers and offtakers, Christian is able to provide a practical, commercial-driven and holistic approach on his advice to the clients.

Relevant Experience

  • Represented a consortium of lenders in the financing of the development, construction and operation of a desalination plant and water supply system with an initial capacity of 840 l/s (and a potential expansion of up to 1,956 l/d) to be located in Northern Chile.
  • Mandated lead arrangers and lenders on the financing of the Huemul Portfolio, consisting of five renewables projects, including the construction and operation of two solar power plants and three wind farms, with a total installed capacity of 630 MW in Chile (“Renewable Energy Financing of the Year” (2021) by Latin Finance; “Renewables Deal of the Year” (2020) by Proximo)
  • Represented an investment fund on its acquisition of a developer, with multiple wind projects across the US.
  • Represented the lenders on a series of financing of a developer’s portfolios of wind and solar PV projects with an aggregate installed capacity of more than 1.3GW in Chile.
  • Represented the lenders on the approximately $890 million senior secured financing related to the development, construction, operation and maintenance of the Los Ramones II Sur gas transportation system (“Americas Oil and Gas Deal of the Year” (2014) by Project Finance International).
  • Represented the borrowers and sponsors on the $235 (approximate) million financing for the development, construction and operation of two solar photovoltaic projects in Mexico – Solem I, a 150 MWac solar photovoltaic project and Solem II, a 140MWac solar photovoltaic project (“Latin America Solar Deal of the Year” (2017) by IJGlobal).
  • Represented the developer on the $2.2 billion El Morro gold/copper mine in Chile.
  • Represented the developer of an LNG import terminal and 650 MW combined cycle gas-fired power plant in Panama.
  • Represented GE Capital Global Holdings on its acquisition of a 24.99 percent stake in YPF Energía Eléctrica from YPF.
  • Represented lenders on a $171 million senior secured credit facility for Hidroléctrica La Higuera, the owner of a 161 MW run-of-river hydropower plant and related transmission assets located in the Tinguiririca River basin in Chile, 180 kilometers south of the city of Santiago.
  • Counsel to the Sponsors bidding on a major desalination plant under a BOOT structure for a mining company in Chile.
  • Co-counsel to more than 12 lenders in the financing of a mining company’s desalination plant in Chile, which is being developed by an international consortium under a BOOT structure.
  • Represented Los Guindos Generación SpA on the financing of an expansion to increase by 133 MW the existing Los Guindos diesel-fired power station located in Chile.
  • Represented a state authority in the Middle East and North Africa region on the development and financing of a first-in-kind and first-in-country $25 billion nuclear new build project and negotiating the EPC, Fuel Supply, O&M and Radioactive Waste Treatment contracts.
  • Represented the lenders on multiple aspects of the proposed $7.33 billion Gasoducto Sur Perúano project, a more than 1,000 km gas pipeline in Peru. This was one of the largest infrastructure projects to come to market in the history of Peru’s energy sector.
  • Represented the lender on the $325 million financing of three natural gas-fired simple-cycle power plants, totaling up to approximately 1,381 MW of combined generating power in Illinois.
  • Represented the joint venture partners on the proposed development and financing for the GNL del Plata project, consisting of a floating LNG regasification facility off the coast of Montevideo, Uruguay, together with associated land-based facilities.
  • Represented the sponsor on the sale of an equity interest in the Mayakán Pipeline in Mexico.
  • Mandated lead arrangers and lenders on the portfolio financing of three wind and one solar PV projects (the “Cóndor Portfolio”) with a total installed capacity of 550 MW in Chile. The Cóndor Portfolio will serve three of the seven 20-year distribution company power purchase agreements awarded to the owner of the portfolio by the Chilean government in August 2016 (“Americas Renewables Deal of the Year” (2019) by PFI; “Renewables Deal of the Year” (2019) by Proximo)
  • Mandated lead arrangers and lenders on the portfolio financing of a wind project (the “Copihue Portfolio”) with a total installed capacity of 148.5 MW. The Copihue Portfolio is the third and final portfolio of the Andes Renovables Portfolio being developed by the sponsor, following the successful closing of the Huemul and Cóndor Portfolios
