Emmanuel Abraye is a Senior Associate within the Disputes Resolution and Labour & Employment Practice Groups at AELEX. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2015 and has amassed significant experience in civil litigation and labour and employment advisory.
Emmanuel frequently represents employers in defining labour and employment litigations at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Court of Appeal (the final appellate court in labour and employment adjudication) as well as the Africa Union Administrative Tribunal. He also handles commercial litigations in Nigerian High Courts, Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court.
His labour and employment disputes experience encompass cases on wrongful termination, severance pay/exit benefits, bullying, harassment, victimization, redundancies, labour union rights, labour union elections, occupational injuries, amongst others, successfully instituting, prosecuting, and/or defending claims on behalf of corporates and individuals. He has also handled commercial disputes, instituting, prosecuting, and/or defending claims on behalf of multinationals and international oil companies.
Emmanuel has also advised on a broad range of labour and employment issues, including redundancies, employee reorganization during corporate restructuring, and represented clients’ interests in negotiations with trade/labour unions. He constantly drafts and reviews the employee handbooks of local and multinational companies in diverse sectors in Nigeria and advises on the potential legal risks arising from the provisions of handbooks, proffering practical solutions to burning issues.
