Guðjón Ármannsson is an attorney at law, licensed to practice before the District Courts, the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. Mr. Ármannsson joined LEX in 2007, but previously worked for the Wasteland Commission.
Mr. Ármannsson specializes in litigation and has expertise in the field of property law, natural resources law, law of tort, administrative law and urban planning and construction legislation.
Mr. Ármannsson is one of the leading litigators at LEX and has litigated almost 80 cases before the Supreme Court of Iceland. In addition, he has litigated nearly two hundred cases before the Court of Appeals and the District Courts. Mr. Ármannsson’ s clients are individuals, companies, public bodies and municipalities.
Among the court cases Mr. Ármannsson has litigated before the Supreme Court are landmark cases in property rights. Many of these court cases pertain to disputes over the ownership of land and dispute over resources such as water and fishing rights. Furthermore, Mr. Ármannsson defended the interests of the municipality of Kópavogur in disputes over the jurisdiction of the municipalities in the capital area, ending in 2017 with a judgment from the Supreme Court.
Mr. Ármannsson was appointed Vice-chairman of the Assessment Committee on Compensation for Expropriation in 2019. Mr. Ármannsson has lectured in Property law at the Faculty of Law in the University of Iceland and Reykjavík’s University. Furthermore Mr. Ármannsson has been an external examiner on Master’s theses in the Faculty of Law at University of Iceland as well as having supervised several BA theses at the same Faculty.
