I work closely with my clients to proactively minimise risk and resolve potential disputes. Sometimes litigation cannot be avoided; I have significant experience in arbitration and litigation proceedings where I always work to maximise the outcome for my client.

My aim in providing advice or managing litigation is to ensure that clients receive the right mix of technical knowledge, strategic problem solving and pragmatic support.

Career highlights

• Genesee & Wyoming – helped successfully resolve claims for the recovery of many millions of dollars arising from a train derailment
• Quasar Resources – acted in respect of multiple actions in the South Australian Supreme Court and the Federal Court of Australia involving Quasar’s joint venture partner, including successfully defending Federal Court proceedings that included an appeal and a special leave application
• SA Power Networks – acted before the Australian Competition Tribunal and on appeal to the Full Federal Court in respect of the client’s 2015–20 distribution determination
• Viterra – successfully defended a multimillion-dollar claim through arbitration and associated Supreme Court proceedings
• An international company – assisted with two sets of proceedings to recover US$2 million allegedly paid out as a result of breach of contract, misleading and deceptive conduct and fraud, recovering US$1.2 million to date
• Defended claims of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and misleading and deceptive conduct arising from a commercial arrangement extension between two parties, settling the matter, which included a damages claim of more than $500 million, on the first day of trial
