Profile

Jeffrey A. Backman is a partner with the Litigation practice group at Greenspoon Marder LLP. Mr. Backman focuses his practice on complex class action defense and general commercial litigation. He has defended clients in federal courts throughout the country, and is at the forefront of the legal landscape involving the telemarketing industry. He also advises clients in legal compliance matters and defends clients before all regulatory bodies such as the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Communication Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and States Attorneys General.

Mr. Backman was appointed to the Southeast Chapter Board of Directors of the Professional Association for Customer Engagement (PACE), the only non-profit trade organization dedicated exclusively to the advancement of companies that use a multi-channel approach to engaging their customers. He has spoken on TCPA compliance and litigation trends at the PACE Washington Summit in 2015 and at its 2016 National Convention & Expo. PACE also selected Mr. Backman as one of its “Speaking Partners,” scheduling him to speak at various events held by PACE throughout the year.

From 2009-2010, Mr.Backman defended a large client in the multidistrict litigation involving the manufacture and sale of Chinese drywall, where he was the youngest member of both the state and federal court defense steering committees, also serving as lead and liaison counsel in certain state courts.

Mr. Backman also has a long record of giving back to the community and participates on a regular basis in fundraising efforts. Most recently with Kids Can, a non-profit organization created by kids, for kids, where his two daughters are founding board members. He was a Broad Fellowship Mentor, a member of Leadership Broward Class XXVIII, an executive director of the B’nai B’rith Justice Unit, and served on the Board of Directors for L.E.A.D. Previously, he served on the Board of Trustees for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and in 2007, the organization recognized him as “Man of the Year.”
