Katie’s practice focuses on complex business litigation, with an emphasis on insurance coverage counseling and litigation.

Katie represents companies in complex insurance coverage disputes in federal and state court. She has counseled clients on insurance coverage disputes arising out of cyber policies, crime policies, commercial general liability (CGL) policies, professional liability/ errors and omissions (E&O) policies, and directors and officers liability (D&O) policies.

Katie served as a law clerk to the Honorable Dave Lee Brannon and Honorable William Matthewman in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. During law school, Katie was a judicial intern to Justice Charles Canady of the Supreme Court of Florida and served as a law clerk for the Legal Aid Service of Broward County. She is admitted to practice in Florida, as well as the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.

Relevant Experience

  • Advised clients on gaps in coverage for cyber risks under cyber insurance and crime policies for a variety of industries, including: financial institutions, web application host, retailers, energy company, restaurants and hospitality groups, law firm, aerospace and defense technology company, and healthcare company.
  • Counseled major retailers in connection with data breach claims under cyber insurance and crime insurance policies, including handling notice of claim and negotiating maximum coverage on behalf of clients.
  • Secured insurance coverage for retailer’s defense costs against class action lawsuit.
  • Litigated insurance coverage disputes involving construction defect claims, including coverage under commercial general liability policies for general contractors under subcontractors’ policies.
  • Represented client in federal lawsuit involving insurance coverage for claim of fatal injuries to employees, including the application of employer’s liability exclusion to non-employers.
  • Represented client in lawsuit involving insurance coverage for claim of catastrophic injuries to patient of healthcare facility.
  • Counseled clients regarding insurance coverage for alleged violations of copyright, right of publicity, nuisance, loss of use of property and business interruption, unfair trade practices, negligent hiring and supervision, wrongful termination, and workplace discrimination.
  • Negotiated successful settlements of insurance coverage disputes through mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
