Matt’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and antitrust and trade regulation.

Matt’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation at the trial level, as well as antitrust and trade regulation, including government investigations, criminal antitrust defense, merger review, and private and government antitrust litigation. Prior to joining Hunton & Williams, Matt served as a law clerk to Judge Terrence W. Boyle of the US District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Matt is admitted to practice before the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, as well as numerous district courts.

Matt is also a regular contributor to the firm’s Retail Industry Blog, commenting on topics related to Competition/Antitrust and Consumer Protection.

Relevant Experience

  • Defending major energy company in multi-state investigations and litigation alleging fraud, unjust enrichment, and false claims.
  • Defending global beverage company in putative class actions alleging negligence, nuisance, and trespass related to emissions from the company’s facilities.
  • Counseling clients on antitrust and trade regulation matters, including the Robinson Patman Act, joint ventures and competitor collaborations, price discrimination, distributor relations, and other competition-related issues.
  • Representing individual clients in Department of Justice criminal investigations, including handling plea negotiations in matters involving automobile parts.
  • Representing global retailer in an FTC investigation.
  • Representing pro bono clients in court on landlord tenant and domestic violence issues.
