Profile
Maythawee Sarathai, partner in Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Bangkok office, has more than 20 years of practice experience in corporate and cross-border M&A, corporate structure, debt restructuring and bankruptcy and insolvency, and financial services transactions in Asia.
In addition, Maythawee also has experience in advising on distressed debt situations generally including settlement, recovery and enforcement strategies, business and asset reorganisation. He is highly regarded in court supervised restructuring cases, but is also active in out-of-court restructurings and debt recovery.
He has been recognized in Chambers Asia and Legal 500 Asia-Pacific as a top-ranked lawyer in Restructuring & Insolvency.

- An integrated petrochemical company – Acted throughout the restructuring of Thailand-based petrochemical manufacturer for a Committee of Creditors comprising an international group of bank creditors which represented 140 banks, export credit agencies and a supranational lender.
- SET-listed mass transit system operator – Advised a Committee of Creditors in the out of court restructuring of the Bangkok skytrain operator and advised a Committee of Creditors in the court-supervised rehabilitation.
- A Thailand-based company engaged in the construction business – Advised the steering committee on the out of court restructuring of around THB 11.5 billion and advised a Committee of Creditors in the court-supervised rehabilitation.
- A holding company engaged in the construction business – Advised the steering committee on the out of court restructuring of around THB 8.5 billion.
- A Thailand-based company engaged in the manufacture and distribution of hot rolled coil steel products – Advised the Planner in preparing the business rehabilitation plan and advised lead bank creditor in restructuring its debts after a company exited from court supervised rehabilitation.
- SET-listed fixed line telephone operator – Advised major creditors in its restructuring.
- An international hospital and a leading private hospital – Advised committee of creditors.

- One of the world's largest suppliers of piping solutions – Advised lead bank creditor in its court-supervised restructuring.

- NPL Auctions – Advised international financial institutions and funds for acquisition of NPL portfolios offered for sale by various local commercial banks and state-owned development banks.

- Advised a large Hong Kong based utility company on its acquisition of an offshore company which is the operator of, and owns interests in, several oil & gas concessions in Thailand.
- Advised a largest petroleum state-owned company on its trading investment in the United States, sale of its shares in several subsidiaries in various jurisdictions.
- Advised on a joint venture between the two leading oil exploration companies for a gas concession in Thailand.
- Advised a global leading consumer products company on its global acquisition of US-based multinational pharmaceutical corporation's nutrition business unit.
- Acted for the Netherlander retail company in its sale of 22 supermarket stores in Thailand.
- Acted for the major shareholders of a Thai car-light repairing service company in selling their 100% stocks to Japanese buyer.
- Advised a large Filipino corporation on sale of its non-alcoholic business in Thailand.
- Advised a Chinese brewery in its joint venture with Thai partner.
- Acted for a UK listed company in relation to its acquisition of 100% of the share capital of a Thai listed company as well as the subsequent delisting of the acquired entity.
- Advised a large UK company on establishment of their Thailand operations covering both processing and wholesaling of poultry products.
- Acting for an overseas institutional investor in relation to its proposed acquisition of a significant equity stake in Thailand’s state-owned commercial bank as part of its proposed acquisition of a portfolio of non-performing assets having a face value of approximately US$2 billion.
