Federal Trade Commission

  • Senior Litigation Counsel, Bureau of Competition (11/2003 - 12/2004): responsible for supervising all Commission antitrust litigation; provided advice to Bureau Director and Commission on litigation matters; provided litigation training to staff attorneys; shared lead responsibility for Arch Coal preliminary injunction action.

  • Acting Assistant Director, Division of Food and Drug Advertising (8/1982 - 12/1982): managed division involved in industry-wide regulation and law enforcement to prevent deceptive or unfair advertising of foods, drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices; responsibilities included supervising staff of approximately 20 attorneys and other professionals engaged in conducting investigations, rulemaking proceedings, and administrative litigation; generated and selected cases, developed budget, and acted as liaison to other agencies and trade associations.
  • Deputy Assistant Director, Division of Food and Drug Advertising (1/1978 - 8/1982): assistant to director of division involved in industry-wide regulation and law enforcement to prevent deceptive or unfair advertising of foods, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices; responsibilities included management of staff of 20 attorneys and other professionals engaged in conducting investigations, rulemaking proceedings, and administrative litigation; direct supervisory responsibility for significant litigation and rulemaking projects; recommended policy and action in appropriate areas to Bureau Director and Commission; developed and justified budget; acted as liaison to other agencies (FDA, USDA), congressional committees, and trade associations.
