Profile

Mike Brent's practice focuses primarily on business law, where he represents clients in a wide range of transactional, regulatory and operational matters. Although his practice includes clients in a variety of industries, he places an emphasis on the representation of healthcare providers (both for-profit and nonprofit) and investors, especially those involved in the long term care and senior housing industries, as well as lenders and investors in the healthcare community. He has represented numerous clients in complex acquisitions, mergers and financing transactions, including tax-exempt bond issuances, HUD borrowings REIT leases and private-equity transactions.

Mike serves as the chair of two teams within Bradley’s Healthcare Practice Group – Post-Acute and Long Term Care and Certificate of Need. He is active in a number of professional and civic organizations, including the American Health Law Association, Tennessee Health Care Association and LeadingAge-Tennessee, and he is very active with LeadingAge at the national level, where he serves as the Tennessee representative to the Legal Committee. For over three decades, Mike has been a frequent speaker at seminars sponsored by those groups and others, as well as a contributor to various legal and professional publications.

Mike has represented clients in a wide range of transactional and operational matters across the country, from the state of Washington to the southern reaches of Florida and from New England to Southern California. While the majority of those transactions have involved long term care and senior housing facilities, Mike also has handled transactions in the hospitality and manufacturing industries. As to operational and regulatory matters, Mike’s practice has similar geographic and industry breadth. In his Certificate of Need practice, Mike has successfully assisted various types of providers in pursuing all types of CONs before the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency, including new hospitals and other healthcare facilities, additional beds for existing operations, new healthcare services and/or equipment, relocations and replacements of healthcare facilities and services (partial and “whole campus”), and major renovations of existing buildings.

Mike is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® and Mid-South Super Lawyers for healthcare law, as well as in the Expert Guide to the "Leading US Healthcare Lawyers."
