Profile
Michaela Jurkova is a partner attorney in Cechova & Partners. Michaela graduated the Law Faculty of Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia, and received her M.A. in 2000, and graduated the Faculty of Commerce, University of Economics, Bratislava, Slovakia, in 1999. During her university studies, she attended a one-year study program at the Business School in Chambery, France (Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Chambery), specializing in corporate finance. In 2004-2005 and 2007-2008, she was leading the Brussels branch practice of Cechova & Partners.
During her practice, Michaela gained significant experience in the area of corporate and contractual law. She advised the clients in asset and business transfers, share acquisitions and mergers, including cross-border mergers. She was active in execution of many legal due diligence reports within the acquisition transactions in Slovakia, and leaded many such transactions, as well. Within the due diligence, she usually focuses on corporate matters, commercial and financial contracts, regulatory issues and intellectual property law.
Prior to joining the firm, Michaela worked as an in-house lawyer in a French owned commercial company active in the area of energy and heat supplying. Within the firm, she developed her practice in this area while providing legal advice to several clients active in the energy sector, including implementation and transposition of the EC legislation into the Slovak legal system and elaboration of legal statements on compliance of the Slovak law with the EU legislation.
On a regular basis, Michaela provides legal assistance to foreign clients in connection with organization and implementation in the Slovak Republic of international employees shares acquisition schemes. She also gained significant experience in advising several international banks and multinational financial institution in the area of financial and investment instruments trading, including commodity derivatives and greenhouse gas emissions.
Serving as a general legal counsel of an important client of the firm, she dealt with various legal issues, including consumer protection, advertising and packaging, data protection and employment issues.
Michaela lead the Brussels office of Cechova & Partners in 2004-2005 and 2007-2008.
