Profile

Reid Pillifant is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in Haynes Boone’s Austin office. His practice focuses on media, intellectual property, open government, anti-SLAPP and First Amendment litigation.

Reid helps clients with all aspects of media law, including pre-publication review, copyright issues, open records requests, and libel and defamation litigation.

Reid’s practice is informed by his own prior experience as a journalist. Before joining Haynes Boone, Reid worked as a political reporter and editor, covering politics at the local, state and national level. He has deep experience with both print and online journalism, having served as the political editor of a weekly newspaper in Manhattan and a nationally recognized online magazine. He also served as executive editor for state-based expansion at an international media company, where he helped establish and edit award-winning bureaus in new markets across the U.S.

Reid is also active in pro bono service. He has helped pro bono clients with a wide variety of issues, from filing public records requests and habeas corpus petitions, to representing pro bono clients in immigration court proceedings and in hearings before the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.
