Richard is a Principal Associate within Shoosmiths' Commercial Group.

Richard advises on a wide range of commercial and intellectual property matters, with a particular focus on IT and technology, innovation, mobility and sport.

Richard works with a broad spectrum of clients across a wide range of industry sectors, ranging from start-up businesses through to multinational companies and his recent work experience includes:

• supporting a tech-led provider of premium finance with a material outsourcing of its core loan engine to a 'unicorn' SaaS provider.
• supporting a global OEM with the outsourcing and redesign of its entire digital function to a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions organisation.
• supporting the Research function of a global OEM with its participation in APC20, a £25m fund for late stage research and development projects helping to accelerate the UK towards a net zero automotive future.
• supporting a leading team in the ABB Formula E World Championship team with its transition from GEN2 to GEN3, a faster, lighter iteration of the Formula.
• advising the Image Rights Company of a current Premier League footballer on his appointment as a "fair play ambassador" by an established global solutions provider for the gaming industry.
• advising a recognised leader in next-generation powertrain solutions with a supply agreement into a world-leading supplier of power solutions for marine application.

Richard has also spent time on secondment with a leading global OEM and its associated Formula E team, giving him a valuable insight into the dynamics of a high-performing team and business operating within a competitive sporting environment.

Having studied Modern History and Politics at Cardiff University, Richard completed his Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the College of Law.  Richard joined Shoosmiths upon qualification in 2014, having trained in-house within the fast-paced environment of a leading communications infrastructure and media services provider.
