Sam specialises in the resolution of complex disputes, frequently with a cross-border element. He has significant experience handling a wide range of commercial and civil litigation and arbitration matters, with a particular emphasis on shareholder disputes, civil fraud and contentious restructuring and insolvency. He has had conduct of cases across a broad spectrum of industry sectors, including banking, investment funds, insurance, energy, real estate, logistics, construction and media. Sam also regularly advises clients on the recognition and enforcement of high-value foreign judgments and arbitral awards in Bermuda.

Sam is particularly experienced in the field of domestic and international arbitration. He has advised and acted for  parties in arbitral proceedings  seated in Bermuda, London, Paris, Dubai, Singapore and Kuwait, and has conducted arbitrations under the auspices of most of the world’s major arbitral institutions.

Sam is the lead Partner of Carey Olsen Bermuda Limited's dedicated debt recovery practice, regularly acting against debtors on behalf of both secured and unsecured lenders, public bodies and private companies.          

Prior to joining Carey Olsen Bermuda, Sam was a senior member of  the global Litigation, Arbitration and Investigations team at international law firm DLA Piper, where he practised in both its Dubai and Singapore offices for many years. Prior to his time at DLA,  Sam was with Clyde & Co and Norton Rose Fulbright.
