Experienced IP guidance across multiple technologies

Sherif Mahmoud counsels on intellectual property (IP) matters, including patent prosecution, due diligence and patent validity, enforceability and infringement. He has extensive experience drafting U.S. and foreign patents related to electrical, mechanical and software technologies, having drafted and prosecuted hundreds of utility patents in various fields. Sherif also drafted and prosecuted hundreds of design patents, including for physical product designs and software-based designs. His technical knowledge includes the following:

  • 5G, telecommunications (e.g., LTE networks) and aerial control systems
  • Autonomous vehicles (self-driving cars)
  • LIDAR, RADAR, sensors, sensor networks and sensor fusion
  • Computer networks, robotics, computer architecture, operating systems, 3D object data modeling, cloud computing and machine learning
  • Medical devices and wearable devices
  • Speech recognition and text-to-speech synthesis

Sherif always works with the best interests of his clients in mind, paying close attention to even the smallest details while staying focused on the client's business objectives.

Before joining Quarles, Sherif was an associate at several law firms. He began his career as a software engineer for a semiconductor test equipment company and then a research engineer for a scientific research organization.
