Steve Liedel, Office Managing Member of the firm's Lansing, Michigan office, focuses his practice on government organization and restructuring, economic development, state constitutional law, and tax policy. Mr. Liedel also provides counsel on legislative drafting, strategy, and interpretation; government policy; election law and campaign finance; government contracts and procurement; real estate, administrative law; and intergovernmental cooperation. He has been extensively involved in drafting legislation, regulations, executive orders, executive directives, intergovernmental agreements, real estate finance, and government contracts. He also has been involved in lobbying legislative and executive branch officials and litigating public policy and constitutional issues.
Mr. Liedel served as Chief Legal Counsel to a former Michigan Governor with responsibility for government reorganization, legislative drafting, ethics compliance, emergency management and homeland security, election law, litigation concerning constitutional issues, tribal relations, gaming, clemency and corrections policy, municipal law, financial emergencies, data privacy, and public financing. Prior to that, as Deputy Legal Counsel to the Governor, he served as attorney and policy advisor on matters relating to executive orders, legislation, veto messages, appointments to public office, economic development, local government, tax policy, and procurement reform and fiscal controls.
Before joining the governor's office, Mr. Liedel was an associate attorney with Dykema in the Government Policy and Practice Group. With more than 25 years of experience relating to state and local government, he also has held staff positions with the Michigan House of Representatives, Michigan Senate, Illinois Senate, and the Law Department of the City of Knoxville, Tennessee.
