Profile
Zak represents owners, developers and financial institutions in a broad range of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, construction and real estate finance, real estate development and leasing, and loan workouts and restructuring.
His pro bono work includes volunteering for the annual NALP/Street Law Legal Diversity Pipeline Program, which brings a class of high school students into our offices to teach them about the law and legal careers. He also serves as a pro bono counsel for Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, a New York City-based nonprofit dedicated to the development of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway.
Relevant Experience
- Represented Savanna in the $349 million, floating-rate loan to refinance 110 William Street. The 32 story, 928,181-square-foot Class-A office tower is located in Manhattan’s Financial District.
- Represented two global financial institutions in connection with the co-origination of a $71.5 million mortgage loan secured by four industrial buildings located in Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland and Massachusetts. The loan was made in connection with a sale and lease-back was structured with a Sharia-compliant master lease and a borrower-affiliated operating lessee.
- Represented a global financial institution in connection with the co-origination of a $93.85 million mortgage loan secured by an office complex located in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. The loan was structured with a Sharia-compliant master lease.
- Represented a financial institution in connection with a $93.5 million floating-rate refinancing of a hotel located near the Dallas Fort Worth airport. The refinancing consisted of a $71 million mortgage loan and a $22.5 million mezzanine loan.
- Represented a real estate investment firm in connection with the origination of a $63.375 million mortgage loan secured by the a resort and spa located in Savannah, Georgia.
- Represented a global financial institution in connection with a $310 million floating-rate refinancing of the ground-floor retail portion of a mixed use retail/residential building located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
- Represented a financial institution in connection with the origination of a $138 million mortgage loan and four mezzanine loans in the amount of $186 million secured by a multi-family apartment complex located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The transaction involved NYC rent stabilization issues and an intercreditor agreement among all of the mortgage and mezzanine lenders.
- Represented a life insurance company in connection with a mezzanine loan of $44.83 million for the construction of a 20-story office building, containing approximately 425,000 rentable square feet of trophy office space and 11,000 rentable square feet of ground floor retail space, together with the construction of a portion of the related underground parking garage. The office building and garage are part of the mixed-use, metro-adjacent development located in Tysons, Virginia, and will include office, retail, residential and a movie theater.
- Represented a real estate investment firm in connection with the purchase of a $26.4 million defaulted mortgage loan secured by a 630,231 square foot single tenant industrial property located in Independence, Ohio.
- Represented a real estate investment fund in connection with the origination of a $47.5 million mortgage loan secured by a 221-room boutique hotel located in the River North neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.
- Represented a life insurance company in connection with a mortgage loan of $28 million secured by a single-tenant property in Seekonk, Massachusetts.
- Represented a global financial institution in connection with a $132 million floating-rate refinancing of an office complex located in Purchase, New York. The refinancing consisted of a $94 million mortgage loan and a $38 million mezzanine loan.
- Represented real estate developers in connection with a $90 million construction loan that will fund the development of ultra-luxury residential condos in Surfside, Florida. The final project is anticipated to include 150,000 square feet of total space with 16 units sized at 5,500 square feet and up.
- Represented ASRR 8955 LLC, an affiliate of Israel-based ASRR Capital LTD, in connection with a $90 million construction loan that will fund the development of ultra-luxury condos in Surfside, Florida.
- Represented a global private equity firm with the issuance of a $115 million mortgage loan secured by a luxury hotel in New York City.
- Represented a global private equity firm with the origination of a mortgage loan secured by a retail center in El Segundo, California.
- Represented client in their $24 million acquisition of an office building in Long Island City, New York.
