Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Amendment Bill, 2018
On 18 October 2018, the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Amendment Bill, 2018 was published for public comment. In terms of the Notice that accompanied the Bill, written representations on the proposed amendments may be furnished within 60 days of publication of the notice. The proposed amendments deal, among others, with the following matters:
- coverage for domestic employees;
- provision for rehabilitation, reintegration and return to work of occupationally injured and diseased employees;
- the regulation of the use of health care services;
- criminal and administrative penalties; and
- compliance and enforcement of provisions of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, 1993.
The Bill also makes provision for the imposition of penalties in the event of non-compliance; the appointment of inspectors who may inspect and question persons about certain records of the employer; and the issuing of compliance orders by an inspector. For more information, please contact:
