Nottingham - creating a sustainable city

September, 2021 - Shoosmiths LLP

Nottingham is set to become an international beacon for green development as it undergoes a multi-billion-pound transformation. But how will this benefit business?

Insider held an online forum to look at the opportunities around Nottingham’s bid to become the UK’s first carbon neutral city by 2028, and its plans to turn an eyesore 1970s shopping centre into a landmark green destination.

The forum also focused on the progress of the £2bn Southside development, which includes the £650m Island Quarter scheme, a new £58m college campus, a new office quarter close to the railway station, as well as the future of the world-class BioCity bioscience campus following its £120m acquisition.

Nottingham-based real estate partner, Deborah Gordon-Brown, joined the panel for the discussion, alongside:

  • Mark Chivers - director of the enterprise zone, Walgreens Boots Alliance
  • Lorraine Baggs - head of inward investment, Invest in Nottingham
  • Greg Nugent - chair, The Nottingham Project
  • Wayne Bexton - director of carbon reduction, energy and sustainability, Nottingham City Council
  • Chris Ware - property director, Conygar
